ASTM A351 Grade CF8M

Why copper is added in steel Gr CF8M, The specification does not ask for the same element as the madatory element. Specification does not give the acceptance value. Upto what percentage it should be accepted.

Usually to copper is added to stainless to improve corrosion resistance (often specifically related to sulfuric acid or sulfites).

Sometimes copper is added to allow aging to have an effect or for reasons related to hardening or improving other mechanical properties.

.

Sometimes the copper isn't 'added' intentionally, so much as it was already there.....
