Nuclear Test Effects

04/29/2013 9:06 AM

I'm not a nuclear weapons guy, but I did find and acquire the following book: The Effects of Nuclear Weapons. It was revised and printed in Feb of 1964. apparently first published by AEC in 1962. (This was found at an antique fire apparatus flea market!)

It seems to be fairly detailed with 716 pages. Of course I haven't read it, but did leaf thru and found before and after photos of various tests, after photos of the real thing in Japan, graphs, and illustrations along with lots of text.

Ok, so what if anything is your question or point to be discussed?

I warn you that many of the "Nuclear Weapons" books of that era were propaganda pieces of one extreme or the other. If the book is actually an AEC book it likely down plays fallout concerns to placate the public in Nevada. It also might be one of a few unauthorized AEC publications that "acquired" official looking logos.

U.S.A. cake with sprinkles. Find them at your local grocer.

I wonder why I am living in a brown section? CR4 stopped doing those experiments years ago. ;)

It is amazing how well the fallout recognized state lines in certain areas and dutifully stayed to one side.

The eastern boarder of Northern California as well as the Western boarder of Minnesota seemed to stand their ground rather well..... be it from fall out or perhaps radiacs.

I want to know what happened in South West Texas (Fort Bend?). That's quite a localized result.

I don't know how they made the map. If it was just based on surveys without knowing exactly where the contamination originated, it could be related to oil extraction.

If it is an area where oil drilling equipment is processed, cleaned, or stored, drilling equipment and waste water can have high levels of contamination.

Just a thought.
