Baxter InfusO.R. Infusion Pump Motor

05/23/2013 7:56 AM

I am working on a Baxter InfusO.R. infusion pumps and I need to replace the motors. The unit is discontinued and no longer supported by Baxter. I need the specs on the Escap motors used in these units. The motor is custom and proprietary and due to the discontinuation no one will give me any information on it. If I could get the specs for that motor I would be very happy. I am prepared to have a company reverse engineer the motor that I need and put it into production, I understand the costs involved, I have a buyer for these motors. The motor is encoded as 22c 11 216E 62 it has a K24 64:1 gearhead coupled with an optical encoder.

Does anyone have these Specs or know someone who will reverse engineer this motor?

...plus, try searching for the Escap motor directly in an internet search engine header. Even if the full equipment is no longer supported, the motor may well be, offering the tantalising prospect of a one-for-one swap with the same motor or a direct equivalent that is more modern.

Good luck.

I hear the words 'no longer supported'... 'reverse engineer'...

Is this medical equipment used for human health care?

Find the patent or patent pending number on the motor or the whole unit. Look up the patent, these days it's probably available online. Everything you want to know will be there. If exact specs are not listed then they will have listed the motors maker and you should be able get them from the maker our from the makers separate patent. If you're just repairing these pumps you should have no problem getting the motors rewound.

I concur with Doorman - if for human use then manufacturers have to have indemnity insurance of 5 to 10 million GBP. Could be similar for other countries.

Are you prepared to be sued should anything go wrong.

Like yourself, I like mending items and get a tremendous buzz when the item works again. I do appreciate there are some things that should not be fixed - mainly those items which connect to people!

Infusion pumps, like any other equipment are supported to the end of their individual life, and to the end of the line's life for economical reasons.

That does not mean, that such pumping stops to exist. Simply, other, hopefully more modern equipment takes its place.

Old, repaired equipment finds its place as a gift in countries, where regulations are not as strict.
