Ceramic Fiber Board Heat Blocking Capabilities?

06/01/2013 5:13 PM

Hi,

I wanted to know the heat blocking capabilities of 1/2" thick ceramic fiber board. I want to narrow the heat in straight line, heat coming from nichrome wire whose initial temperature is 70-80 degrees centigrade, so

How long did ceramic fiber board not heat too much? that when we place an object on the board it will not get hot from the heat of board.

I tried with MDF board, it shows good resistant to heat but it will burn after some period.

Thanks.

Typical 1/2" ceramic fiber board can easily withstand 80ºC .....

I don't try with ceramic fiber board till now but I have used Asbestos Millboard, it withstand heat & was not cracked but after 10 or 20 minutes due to continous heat blocking it will get enough hot, how different is ceramic fiber from Asbestos millboard?

Thanks.

I don't understand the problem with the asbestos millboard, it should withstand temperatures well in excess of 80ºC.....If you want to stop the transfer of heat, such as a heat guard, then you might try a different approach...

Air can be an effective insulator. I suggest you try two thinner layers of what you are using with a 3/8 -1/2 inch air gap between them.
