Diesel Electric Equipment

Hi I have a problem with a dc generator exciter set powered by a 500 hp 750 rpm prime mover problem being loss of power to dc drive motors and 1 think over current on dc generator ie 800 amps with excitation current of 5 amps under load I have checked brush gear seems ok on both generator and exciter seems fine commutators look good prime mover is going @ 750 rpm generally the condition of engine room equipment and switch gear look very serviceable can anyone advise what else and how to check what I need to find problem thank you

Can you tell us what kind of "diesel electric equipment" you have. Brand name, model, model number, etc.

More info is needed about the generator, 800 amps could be over its rating but we need to know the nameplate data and the nature of the load(s) that it's supplying. Some types of DC generators are self-limiting so it's important to make sure that you're not asking it to supply too much more than its rating.

Simple. Phone the equipment manufacturer and discuss the issue with their technical helpline. If it involves a technician calling in to assess and repair the fault, then so be it.
