Strain Energy Density Function

what are strain energy density functions? how are they useful in hyperelastic models?can't the same function be used in linear models in analysis ?

Strain energy density functions are things one learns about in school by doing the assignments given by the instructor.

Those not wishing to put forth any effort go to forums, such as CR4, and ask others to do the work for them.
