2" Carrier for Gate Valve?

06/24/2013 4:16 AM

Hi,

One of our customer is asking for 2 1/16" 5K gate valve per API 6A, with prep for 2" carrier.

Does anyone have an idea what it means by PREP for 2" Carrier?

Thanks!

The Customer does. So get on the phone and discuss it directly.

He wants a 2 1/6" Gate valve now. But the construction needs to take into consideration and needs to be prepared to carry a 2" Gate valve (or what ever it has to carry in 2"). He (the customer) will know for sure!

What is a 2 1/16" 5K gate valve or 2 1/16" any valve for that matter? Valves (and pipes etc) are designated by nominal size eg 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", 3".......

The 1/16 designation is for high pressure application, 5k to 15k+ psi, usually dealing with wellheads and drilling operations....

Hadn't heard of that. Is the 1/16 some sort of code to indicate high pressure application? Presumably it doesn't mean 1/16" (added to the 2" pipe nom dia).

See #1 above.

It is better to admit to the customer that you don't understand the requirement, than to install the wrong item to save your pride.

ASK THE CUSTOMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
