Epic Security Failure At NASA

06/24/2013 8:02 AM

As we learn that the US government has been spending billions on peering into the lives of ordinary Americans and storing the collected data, top secret information is routinely being stolen from NASA.

It's not a security breech, there simply isn't any security in place. The information that has walked out the door, includes, rocket propulsion system designs, satellite technology, and a host of other high tech information that could easily be used for weapon systems.

As the government prioritizes it's spy network to turn inward on the US and it's citizens, the world is becoming a much more dangerous place.

To make matters worse, it appears that investigations may be being intentionally stopped:

Maybe we could find a home for this sensitive information at the new NSA data storage facility.

...or here, perhaps?

Somewhere.

Budget cuts are one thing, but to leave all of this information vulnerable, is completely unacceptable.

And we have the audacity to sit here and wonder aloud about the advances in nuclear delivery technology in Iran and North Korea.

We've suspected for years that this is going on...just remember to add a sprinkling of explosive and conspirosorial key words to random posts/mails, just to keep them on their toes.

It helps if the rest of the thread is full of utter bs....

Most of what I attempt to do, is to expose this stuff. It's all out there.

As we spend our time and money collecting tweets and phone calls, I think it may be time to do some soul searching on where our priorities lie.

If we begin continue to see politically motivated attacks on our citizens, I will take part in any action necessary to stop it.

NASA hasn't done anything meaningful for years now. I say let 'em have it.

It's the private sector whos got the hot ticket now, and I'll bet that their intellectual property is well protected.

Hey, if I didn't still work for NASA (and they didn't cancel the Mars mission program I worked on, there were quite a few that never got to the launch pad) I might take offence.

Jack - I never got an explanation, I always blamed budget cuts.

Not that they aren't still important, mind you.

It may not seem meaningful, but who knows what's residing on their computers?

Modern propulsion technology is still a pretty big deal to some countries. It can make missiles go really, really far. I don't think we should be letting anybody have anything.

I agree that security is needed, but the practice of making every document secret, to be sure that the three pages out of 500 are secure is over the top. That may be an exaggeration, but the point is valid.

I paid attention to a simple case. The Veteran Administration managed to "lose" 3 or 4 laptops with large, real, live set of patients data on it.

But, do not worry: they were passwort protected.

Except, a good IT repairman can take care of that in a short order.

So, which lazy bum of a site manager permitted the bum programmer to walk out (regularly) with live data?!?

It is an attitude, coupled to mental lazyness.

At my place (and that is a commercial telecomm.) people were fired for less.

"Oh - you must mean turning NASA into an Islamic outreach & climate change propaganda organization?"
