Help in India to Cut Engines for Display!

07/12/2013 2:14 AM

Hello Friends,

Good to see Cr4 running so well! I have a request this time. I need to find a good machinist who can help me in making cut sections of a few 2 wheeler engines that I have. We are planning a display and I am finding it difficult to locate a machinist in India who can do this kind of a precision job! I have contacts abroad but I think the lead time is too much for that process. It will be an authentic exercise and I can share more details if someone can help me with a good contact :)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Maybe the National Railway Museum could help?

If you are look to slice sections of an engine for display, you'll probably need to find someone that works with large abrasive cutting wheels or perhaps a cut-off saw.

I have a friend that was in the peace core in the early 70's in Malaysia, that did this by hand with a hack saw. It was a 4 cylinder cast iron auto engine. Is there a problem with you using hand tools to do this. You don't need a machinist, unless this is a humongous engine.

A electric reciprocating saw or a handsaw does just fine if the operator does his planning and is neat and patient with his cuts.

There must be plenty of job working shops with CNC wirecut EDM in Gurgaon itself, which should be able to handle this.

13.7 There are "n" facilities in any given neighbourhood in India where this can be done: infrastructure wise and skill sets wise. What needs to be cranked up is the passion and the commitment to do this. If this project is for a noble cause like Educational Public Display, try to sell the idea to Sanjay Somani of. Hindustan National Glass, Bahadurgarh. And don't try to get a quote. He is too big to do this commercially. If he is convinced, he will do it gratis!
