How to Select Capacitor Bank?

We have 315KVA transformer with 120KW of lighting load, 62KW of UPS load and one 20HP motor load. The maximum demand is 220KW. The power factor is poor 0.75. Please suggest how to select a capacitor bank?

Er, how about discussing the need with various capacitor bank suppliers, and go from there?

Rule of thumb for a quick estimate or worst case (general industrial loads):-

Incoming supply switch - in this case say 400A

1/2 for supply to PFC = 200A

1/2 for KVAr fitted = 100KVAr

This is no substitute for proper measurements etc, but it is surprising how often it is not far off.

Contact a capacitor bank installer to fix a power analyzer/recorder at the main switchboard and record I,V,pf,harmonics,max demand,KW,kVA,kVAr,Hz etc for 24 hour period and recommend suitable solution including protection from harmonics.
