iTunes Files

07/23/2013 12:17 PM

We recently bought a new computer. They had separate files set up for each of them and the computer vendor consolidated all their files into one. I am being asked how to separate the consolidated file into three separate individual files. Being inept at iTunes I am looking for help. Thanks.

Copy files to separate hard drive and then install in other computers...

I take it you bought a Mac of some sort... so if that is the case and you are near a Apple store, you can book a FREE appointment online with the in-store "Genius" who will help you. Go to the Apple web site. look for the nearest store to you, book your appointment and turn up....

If you bought a Mac and took out the "Apple Care Plan" for three years, then both online and telephone support is available to you 24/7, again free to those that have the "Apple Care Plan"

"Bets are down!" , here ... since he said they had just bought a new "computer", instead of "MacBook Air" or "MacBook Pro" or "Mac mini" or "iMac", I'll bet dollars to doughnuts it's a run-a-the-mill pc.

And iTunes is the sorriest piece-o-C4ap ... well, never-mind. Suffice to say, it DOES exhibit a steep learning curve to use, especially "syncing" with your iPhone if you have one.

B U T ... it Can be done! For starters, you most likely have the newest version of iTunes (since it will PESTER you to upgrade to it every time you boot-up otherwise).

In (Windowz Explorer) you have a "Documents and Settings" folder, which has sub-folders for EACH of the pc "Users" (assuming they each have their own/individual "Log-On".

In each of those (User) subfolders, there should be a "\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" subfolder array.

Believe-it-of-not (ONE thing the newest upgrade affords you is):

inside that (last) "iTunes Music" folder is yet ANOTHER subfolder called (wait for it):

"Automatically Add to iTunes"

Any songs that you drag-and-drop into THAT folder will Automatically get "Imported" into THAT user's iTunes "Library" whenever THEY log-onto the pc ("System") and thereupon Open iTunes.

"That Simple". Now, answer:

is it a "run-a-the-mill pc", and, do you have the "Latest/Greatest version of iTunes"?

ndt-tom you are correct in your assumption of the new "runoff the mill pc". I Tunes is updated. You are also correct in the steep learning curve in syncing I Tunes. Now they need to go thru the songs on file and start their own libraries. Thanks for your help !
