I like this one better....I can take off from the back yard.....

"he Dutch prototype PAL-V One can manage a 750 mile range (at 28mpg) on land with a top speed of 112mph. It'll manage the same top speed in the air, with a range of between 220 to 315 miles in range (at 9.5mpg) depending on the model you have. And it'll seat two - so you can show off your Jetsons lifestyle to your mate.

"But flying cars will fill the skies with lethal deathtraps," we hear you cry. Don't worry - the risks will be minimal, since the PAL-V One, as a gyroscopic vehicle, will fly at under 4,000ft. That means you'll be able to pilot it with all the other Visual Flight Rules (VFR) traffic. "

Full Credit to their efforts, but is this completely insane in vain?

A car needs to be robust against collision, travel thousands of miles on the tires,
be spacious and comfortable for many passengers, etc i.e. things a light plane is not.

A plane needs to be as light as possible, economise on materials e.g. tyres, and be
as streamlined and compact as possible. The opposite of attributes for a robust car.

This is without going into the many practicalities of wings on the road, etc. so is it
just perverse that we (seemingly) want to drive and fly in the same vehicle?

I think the money may be better wasted spent developing a "jump" suit or personal
"mover" (of some sort) without the difficulties of wings or rotors, etc. and when I can
finish my latest crazy "inventions" on my "still to do" list, perhaps inspiration will come.

Meanwhile keep up the good work!

I figure, whenever you try to make 1 thing do 2 (basically different) things, you soon get stupid with compromise.

I'm still waiting for the flying car that flips up into a briefcase, (think George Jetson).

The likelihood of that happening is about the same as Microsoft releasing a finished version of new software.

Saw the car/aircraft fly at OSH this year (where your picture was taken by the way). Still the same issue with every other flying car. They usually do nether well. This is true for this one as well. 100 MPH in the air. 70 + MPH on the ground. Price has gone from 110K to over 200K due to insurance repair issues. A lot of something for a lot of green backs. Does not add up well.
