It is vitally important that your weighing systems are correctly calibrated. System inaccuracies can result in product quality issues, poor inventory control and loss of revenue. Carrying out calibration procedures on platform scales and weighbridges is relatively straightforward and is usually accomplished using calibrated weights. However calibrating silos, tanks and vessels can be more difficult, especially if they cannot be readily emptied or taken out of service for extended periods.

Silos are frequently used to store and dispense bulk solids, including cement.

Cement bulk silos must have a mechanism for the owners to know how much is contained.

This is done in a few primary ways:

- Radar gauges

- "Reel type" tape measuring systems

- Load cells on the silo supporting legs

Because the product is most frequently sold by weight, the last method is the most popular ( as I understand)

Accurate calibration on load cells is important to facilitate commerce and ensure accurate measurement of silo level.
