YY Winding Generator

09/03/2013 12:53 AM

Good Day,

We have a SIEMEN's Turbogenerator with Stator Winding Interconnection mentioned as YY/54 .

I understand that 54 is the number of stator Slots. However YY would indicate a 12 lead generator .

I cannot find information regarding such a connection .

There are two such generators in parallel to a single double Delta/star Step Up Transformer. Is there a relation to that ?

Also is there any other reason such a connection is made. How would it effect the stator induced EMF is the number of windings have doubled as opposed to a conventional 6 lead generator.

The configuration is used in some large steam turbine driven generators. Each phase has two separate windings that are connected externally to form two star connections The high voltage terminals of each phase are connected in parallel to form a single three phase output. Separate star connections are formed on the neutral end of each winding. These neutral may be at opposite ends of the machine. This arrangement is sometimes referred to as the double-ended, twelve-bushing machine. This is used where the total full-load phase current exceeds the current carrying capability of a single bushing.

Thank You.

Does this mean that - at a time -

Both sets of windings are provided in parallel to the step - up transformer?

This would maintain the same voltage , but now - double the current . Is that right?
