Polish the wires more often.

Seriously, follow the recommended maintenance procedues for the equipment being maintained.

Do some research before proceeding.

Take a maintenance course, do some research on the internet, talk to a professional for tips/guidance/mentoring, etc.

Electrical maintenance is such a vast field that you have to specify what type of maintenance you are doing and and for what equipment. From low voltage control system to EHT the procedure for maitenance differ. First you have to do some real maintenance and then you tell us where you have short fall in your regular maintenance and then ask specific question. Then experienced members of this forum will give some suggestions for improvement from their experience. In a simpe sentence I sugest you to carry out regular preventive maintenance to avoid breakdowns of electrical equipments and loss of production or down time in regular power supply distribution system.
