Carbon Brush Fabrication

09/16/2013 10:08 PM

what tools are required for making and coupling carbon brush terminal with flat metal sheets and small reverts without cracking the carbon brush body?

And what type of manual hand tools is most suitable for fabricating carbon brush from carbon brush rod or blocks?

The revert gun and sand papers don't work, they are difficult to use making special carbon brushes.

The embedded copper pigtails are put in place as the carbon/binder is pressed. You can't add them once the brush is formed.

Why are you wanting to do this. Brushes are cheap compared to the repair costs of the motor you are liable to ruin.

Have a look at http://www.morganamt.com/gb/

Sorry TonyS that is not always true there have been times that we were able to find brushes to fit older motors that did not have pig tails and had to install them not easy but possible. Just had to drill holes in back of brushes and compress copper leads and install then solder in place to secure.

Besides the tools you will need to acquire skills.

Nothing better than knowing how to swing the hammer!

(never built the 1) but you can't use non-elastic epoxy to seal the threads (it'll crack) if your brush assembly is of the plastic that gets fragile in low temperatures (you shouldn't sell it in nordic countries) ? why rivet [¯¯¯] bend the assembly -- donno about the hand tools - have a nice day!

(sh¡t) it's not a carbon fibre ... yo yoohoo ... how about a shape-mold cut-pattern on both surfaces and some cement (however i cant imagine the application it goes)
