Well, a miniature circuit breaker is there to protect against overcurrent, and is sized to fit inside a distribution board. An ELCB is there to protect against earth faults.

One can find both functions built into one device. It is called a Residual Current Breaker Overload {RCBO} and an internet search is the best next step.

These devices cannot be used to measure the air gap in between a stator and rotor in a turbo-generator, nor measure the armature winding temperature of a motor.

I see a practical course in electronics in your future, if you want to be successful.

MCB is for protection of installation & equipment against over currents & short circuits

ELCB is for protection of human & animal life against the harmful effects of electric current

Basic question for a potentially life and property endangering application.

I don't want to put you down mate, but, why do you need to know?

This is a totally searchable question if the answer you seek is just for the sake of curiosity or study.

Manufacturers of these devices provide excellent free tutorials and tech memos that explain their proper application and mode of operation and vary from very basic to very detailed. You choose.
