Cyclops - Sub Under Development

10/08/2013 9:50 PM

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/10/131008142143.htm

It is said to be manned by 5 persons. It appears a bit to small for this given that there would have to be space for appliances.

I always thought that going to this depth requires time which would have to make the sub a secondary living room. What is your take would it harbor 5 persons in this thing and would you like to be part of the team?

I take it you have never lived in a student flat.

Well, I do share my car with 4 or 5 people sometimes, but thinking to submerge this underwater and be there cramped up like this seems like a baaaad idea!

It's much easier when you know you can open a window or pull over and stretch your legs.

Soon to be known as "Das Butt", no doubt.

Their photo is most CERTAINLY deceptive...

Anybody who's been in a sub,

O R , inside of a Saturation Diving System , knows that a LOT of equipment is necessary to sustain several bodies underwater for any length of time.

Toilets are NOT an integral part of a diving BELL (the vessel that takes the "working pair" of divers TO bottom, and retrieves them back to the surface).

But it IS necessary to have one in the topside 'living-quarters' chambers, which are maintained at the same internal pressure as the working pressure at the depth of the job being performed. Thus, it is EASY to eliminate waste from the toilet (properly-plumbed, of course) by cracking a valve that lets the internal pressure of the vessel *blow* the waste out (while bringing-in some 'make-up' gas from the system's supply).

Cyclops is meant to keep ITS passengers at sea-level / 1 atmosphere (pressure).

The terlet alone must have been a major "NASA contribution" (with quite a 'pumping system'). Any "foul-ups" with THAT system = instantaneous dive-abort ...

Personally, I'll pass. I don't like tight quarters. (or crowds) When I had an MRI and had to remain motionless for what seemed like eternity, (but was probably 15 minutes at most) I had the feeling of being in a coffin and buried alive. I've heard several people make the same comment!!

Being in a confined space in water, to me, would be even worse.

I would think they should all get outfitted at 'flat-d.com'
