Weird Gmail Problems

quite a few programs try to protect you by limiting what they will look at in your file system. They need 'share' folders and that sort of thing to try to prevent a trojan or virus using an email as a back door into your file system. It may be PITA but it is protecting you.

For the copy and paste issue,

try using Forward and then save the draft. You should be able to cut and paste freely from the draft. when you are done you can delete the draft.

Nope. Don't work. For a brief time, I could do a "Reply" and grab copy, but that quit working. Forward doesn't work either.

Highlight text, right click on text, click copy, paste into compatible format....

That works if I am copying and pasting from one Gmail message to another Gmail message, but I can't paste it into a word doc. At least you solved part of the problem. Thanks.

That's because it's not a compatible format....paste the file in notepad then save it as a document, then open the file in word....

It used to be a compatible format and worked just fine--for more than a year. This not copying b.s. is something recent. And it's the same on three different computers.

I can also forward the email to my Outlook Email and access it all right there.

There are several work-arounds. I just want the sumbitch to work the way it used to.

Interesting. I use IE8. Every time l get some download that 'does me a favor' by loading a browser extension, or google chrome, or other 'toolbar wonder' program, I delete and disable them as fast as I can. My kids have loaded firefox and google chrome and others, and all they have done is slow me down, and I always go back to IE. I have not used Gmail last I heard you had to be invited to join it. I am also leery about what these helpful programs are gathering and reporting about me. I have yahoo and hotmail, and they work ok for me. Sorry I wont go gmail to figure this one out, but I have had times when I could not cut and paste, just cant remember the specifics. I know some html and scripts on websites will prevent cut and paste, but I would not exepct to find that in an email program, it is contrary to the purpose. I hope someone has your answer. good luck:)

Thanks. I agree with you, but I'm forced to use Gmail for business. I use Outlook for all other emails. No, we don't have a corporate IT person.

Can you print the email to a document writer ? in your printers list you might have adobe writer or xps document writer or word or distiller. if you can print to any of those you should have a workable file.

I happen to love gmail. Beats outlook by a mile.

Perhaps the paste function is superessed in the server side. Try and print it out to a pdf or something/

So it's NOT just me. Others have the problem, and it's because of IE.

That's a relief, sort of. At least I discovered how to copy and paste within Gmails, and that's half the problem.

Stupid Gmail. This is a classic case of transoptimal engineering; that is, they've given Gmail so many advanced features, it doesn't work any more.

I don't think Gmail is stupid. I think IE is a terrible browser because Microsoft doesn't play very well with others.

I've been using Gmail from day one it was released and have never encountered any kind of problem..

I am also been using Chrome or Firefox for my browser. I am staying away from IE and Outlook if I can help it! They're troublesome and quirky at times...

Way back in 2003, I had problems with the Qutlook that I called Microsoft and let them remotely fix the problem.. and the Outlook Guru finally fixed the problem - after a day and a half of working on my desktop!

Your problem(s) may possibly be a browser related issue?? You may be happier if you try other browsers..

I don't care any more. I'm using Firefox now, and it works.

The way things are going, I may never use IE again for anything.

Use shift cntrl c and v when just cntrl c won't work.

Stranger and stranger.... From Chrome, Firefox or Safari, there seems to be no problem copying and pasting in my Mac environment from Gmail. In my virtual PC on the Mac from IE, again No problem going either from Gmail to the PC notepad or to the Mac notepad or to the PC Windows Microsoft Word. Get your machine checked for viruses as all of these applications of mine have just been updated and are new, and I keep them clean as I can since my livelihood depends on their working properly.

I solved the problem--I ran Gmail under Mozilla Firefox and the problem went away. So that makes TWO major work apps I've had to move from IE to Firefox.
