I wonder about false trip avoidances. Will it swerve, hit a crippling pot hole, just to not pop a mylar balloon or bag blown across the roadway.

I do like the concept and a lot of research has to be done to get this right. The computing power and analysis capabilities will be the hard part, not the automotive part. A computer company is more likely to succeed in the number crunching than an automotive company.
