GA even though it doesn't have the answer the OP seeks.

That O&M manual has some good info in it, OP can add that to his library..but the OP probably needs the Service manual if he is performing a procedure that requires timing.

It doesn't?

Oh well. I didn't read the whole thing, but saw the timing section and figured it would be in there.

Lots of good general info though.

Fellas, look at the description the OP gave. It's a big diesel engine. Some 700HP big.

A genset most likely.

I'm guessing that the OP has had the injector pump/metering unit out for servicing and recallibration and needs to find TDC on #1 cylinder as part of the reassembly procedure.

If the OP can't find a TDC mark at either the flywheel or the harmonic balancer end then he may have to resort to opening a crankcase cover so he can see #1's crank and open the rocker cover(s) on #1 and look as the crank is slowly rotated for when #1 is at the top of the stroke and both inlet and exhaust valves are closed.

Once OP has gone through all of this bother he will probably then notice some obscure marks that might sort of line up if you squint......or not, but either way he has TDC on compression stroke for timing reference.

Maybe OP can tell us why he needs the timing mark?
