Acceptable Leakage Rates in Compressed Gas Systems

We currently use a mixture of nitrogen and helium to test the integrity of the joints in any piping system on our platform that carries compressed hydrocarbon gas. This leakage rate is then compared against an in-house specification for acceptability. I have not been able to find where these numbers were derived from. Is there an industry standard that covers what is an acceptable leakage rate in compressed hydrocarbon gas systems? Also, is there an acceptable standard using simply nitrogen or air alone?

From the NIOSH handbook , The OSHA Time weighted average limit (8 hour work day 40 day week) Maximum exposure limit of Hydrocarbon gas allowed by law is 1000ppm (1800 mg/m3)
