Dual Monitor Problem

06/07/2007 3:51 AM

Guys,

I have a problem with my monitors, im using a dual monitor view for my computer.

my desktop view is small, just visualize this, leets say a window, if I maximize it, it wont occupy the whole screen, instead it has spaces on the sides, which are black, thats either the left or right monitor.

Can you give me the best settings for this?

I use NVIDIA for display settings

Thanks...

A good driver for a 2 head graphix card will let you position the location of the 2nd monitor which one is dominant (dominant one has the start button, etc.), and apply separate settings to each monitor. If you don't have these options, I would say your card and or driver don't fully support 2 monitors. You should find the display properties just by right clicking the desktop, an then properties, then settings.

Maybe the desktop is just not filling the black space- can you put application windows there?

Charlie R is correct. The problem you are experiencing is due to your monitor's settings. Your monitors should have a settings feature, which will allow you adjust your geometry, in this case to allow you to control the width, hight, and placement of your desktop within the monitor's screen. Experiment with these settings, and soon you will have your monitors adjusted to a fair-thee-well.

Your monitor should have some controls (v-hold and h-hold) to adjust the height and width of the display. Try adjusting them. You may also need to take note of the alignment of the image on the screen.

NVIDIA should take care of this automatically. Is there a major difference between your monitors? When you right-click on your desktop and go to Settings do you see one or two screens? If you see only one there's a problem. If you see two, you should be able to click between each monitor and set options for each.

More info, please?

it's the monitor itself. monitors are in essence dumb and don't know what to display at until you tell them by setting them up.

when making a change or addition of a monitor onto a dual monitor-capable vid card each monitor has to be set up to use the full amount of the screen size available.

there will be buttons on your monitor that allow you to alter the settings of the monitor for size, position, colour and geometry. they are most likely on the front of the monitor but can also be under the monitor near the front. older monitors can also have them on the back of the monitor or possibly on the sides.

Also can happen when using a KVM switch to run one monitor off of two computers. The monitor will need to be configured to each computer using the above mentioned buttons that are on the monitor.

I have a 19" 4x3 aspect screen on my left and a 22" 16x9 aspect screen on the right. It's a very useful setup and I have nVidia to help me manage it, but there are some weirdnesses. For example, I use Remote Administrator to access my PC from abroad. That gives me a view of the primary screen but not the secondary screen. Depending on the settings, I may or may not be able to reduce it to a single screen from abroad.
