Deposition Rates

Have you got any table with the deposition rates of the different welding methods?

It would be even better if the table has the rates related to welding situations (overhead, underhand, tubes, etc.)

Each is a variable: Current magnitude, AC/DC,Electrode dia/or cored detail, wire feed rate,MIG/MAG gas composition,SAW carriage velocity,Preheated or not.....

User determines what he wants.

AWS has guide called the Everyday Pocket Handbook for Arc Welding. It gives depositions rate by rod, amps, volts, etc and gives tables for MIG. TIG is covered in the Gas Tugsten Arc Welding Guide. Different positions would probably average out, and they are all estimates anyway.

The deposit rates changes in a practical approach and depending upon various factors (irrespective of the process) like,

Use of excessive current, stub end loss, high -med- low deposit electrodes, use of lower size to larger size elecs. Root gap in butt joints, Type of fillet( convexity / concavity) , position of welding ( as U pointed out) , short - long arc lengths in SMAW process, flux - wire cmbination in SAW process, type of gas selection in GMAW process etc.

The Practical values will differ from short term to probable production depositions and also on structural and radiographic quality welds.

Considering all these shortcomings, SMAW has low O.F. ( Operator Factor) of 25% comapared to 40 - 50 % in GMAW , 60 - 70 % in SAW process & FCAW Process etc.

However I am enclosing few tables showing deposition rates with various welding processes, and effect of fillet size, edge preparation etc Since they are old, forgive me for the poor contrast and print out.
