Disconnect BOU Honeywell DCS TotalPlant Alcont

12/19/2013 8:41 AM

Hy, we have a Honeywell DCS TotalPlant Alcont, to which we added a new digital output module BOU. On this module there is a Disconnect or D switch which sets all the channels on the card into a passive state. We put this switch to Connect position, but no outputs are enabled.

Has anyone seen this before? How can we solve this problem?

In the Honeywell manuals it is mentioned: For card replacement the outputs are reliably switched off by turning the front panel DISCONNECT lever to the right. This must be done both to the old and the new card. The lever must not be operated during normal operation, because an erroneous control would be caused by clearing all the output channels.

Thank you

As I do not know this equipment, the following is pretty generic to such systems...

Are you replacing a card or adding a new one? You said you were adding a card.

If you are adding one...

The switch you enabled on the card is a "hardware" interlock. Besides the hardware needing to be in the enabled configuration, it is a pretty sure bet that you will need to go over the software configuration for this system to let it know the new card is there.

The software will need to add the physical bus addresses for the discrete I/O points into its operating environment. You may also have to "declare" the I/O points in other areas of the software.

You cannot just plug in the board, enable its hardware portion and expect it to work.

Also... check the card out... it may had address switches on it that must be set properly.

Time to read the manuals...

Hopefully you followed the directions: "The lever must not be operated during normal operation, because an erroneouscontrol would be caused by clearing all the output channels.

If you installed the module into a running/operating system you very well may have damaged the module or you have caused a major fault in the system.

I have seen this same error on the Honeywel TDC 3000 DCS systems and normally it is caused by improper configuration instructions.

The Honeywell DCS systems I have worked on are not "Plug and Play" and require configuration parameters to be entered via the engineering node telling the programming where the module is being installed, the type of module, and the address block (tags)assigned to the I/O.

For the first this BOU card must configuring , by Engineering design computer.

Second step, create any block that use one channel of this new BOU

Try to on and off SCAN or cycle time of this block, and see your BOU now already work properly...

Tq...i am happy can help you...

best regards
