Bolts or Stud Bolts for Flange EN 1092-1

12/20/2013 8:03 AM

According to specifications that I have for a flange EN 1092-1 Type 02 DN80 for example it should use 8Mx16 bolts. What other specification has to be add to this?, Can I use Stud Bolts with Nuts?, What is the equivalent Stud Bolt and Nut? Are there some tables of this equivalence?.

Thanks in Advance

With regard to your question "What other specification has to be add to this?" It seems that you have not specified the material for the bolts/studs

I am not sure about EN 1092-1 flanges, however for ANSI B16.5 piping flanges, stud bolts are almost always the preferred choice.

Stud bolts, with two nuts are the better choice because the stud may be removed through the flange in either of two directions. Machine bolts (with a head) can only be removed in one direction. In congested assembles, this is a big advantage.

A commonly used carbon steel stud/bolt material in the US is ASTM A193-B7 and A194-2H..... find the equivalents to these....

Apart from the material, you also need to specify the PN rating. Refer to EN1515-1 for bolting requirements.
