How choosing capacitor for single phase motor

Choose the one the manufacturer recommends.

I'm assuming you mean "run cap"? as noted, go with the manufacturers recommendation for your supplied voltage

Why would you not assume "Start Cap"? He gave no indication as to which of the half dozen or so versions of single phase motors he it referring to. In fact if it is a shaded pole or split phase, maybe he meant Power Factor Correction cap?
