Hi folks,
I have a question on streaming video through my Android phone via my home network. The question is how do I tell the data is coming through my network connection and not via the cell phone connection. Details as follows:
I have a home network fed by roadrunner via a cable modem and router. Three PCs connect to the router. I recently bought a Sonos wireless speaker and put that on the network. Any PC can run the speaker. I also put an app on my Droid phone, and was able to connect the phone to my home network and control the speaker with the phone.
Now I bought an HDMI cable and can output audio/video of what's on my phone on a flat screen TV. So I can play content from Netflix, Amazon, whatever on the TV via the phone. My question is, if I do this, how do I tell where the data is coming through? Is it coming through my home network, or through my cell phone provider? It matters because I don't do much on my phone other than calls and a little texting, so I don't have much of a data plan. I don't want to upgrade to a more expensive plan and I don't want to find out the hard way by getting a big bill for data overrun a month after I start doing this. I can see in the little icon bar at the top of the screen that the phone is connected to my home network, but I can't tell if streaming data is coming through the network or the cell phone - or how to choose a setting that specifically routes the data through the network connection.
Any advice? Thanks -
jhammond
