Battery Holder

01/22/2014 6:13 AM

I need a side loader battery holder for the CR 2032 coin battery that is about 0.125" overall height. I know they have them that are 0.170", but I need one that is around 0.125" Anyone know or have an idea where I can find this ASAP? Thanks

The CR2032 is 0.126" thick (3.2 mm), so you're going to have to modify your requirements.

Other button-cells are available with a thinner profile:

This is good, but I need to be able to change the battery. Since our design is low profile, I am looking for a smaller battery holder. Thanks

With this battery, what you want is impossible.

I measure a new, unused, 2032 as 0.123" thick (0.1275" including a 0.0045" layer of plastic to avoid shorting the battery). In order to make reliable contact, the battery holder must be made of metal around 0.010" thick, top and bottom, so the minimum thickness of battery with holder would be 0.143". It is standard practice to have some bends in that metal to provide spring and facilitate insertion of the battery. This brings the minimum thickness to around 0.150".

If there are non-conducting parts of the structure that support the metal and provide spring, you could conceivably get away with thinner contacts, say 0.002" each, allowing the battery and its contacts to fit in a 0.127" space, not counting that supporting structure...

I think that you have two options, build your own battery holder using thin springy, stainless steel or go for a CR2016 (20mm wide, 1.6mm thick) battery that needs more frequent replacement, but is only half as thick....but same voltage.

Or both!!
