Smart Building Spies on its Occupants

Spying it may be, but knowledge about the overall movement patterns of building occupants could help manage air conditioning and ventilation more efficiently. One researcher proposes a network of infrared motion detectors to monitor such movement patterns. Software, programmed to identify different patterns, can control HVAC, lighting, and other building systems accordingly.

Hi Moose. As long as the house, apartment or any other building is not connected to a government central computer I think it is a great idea. I do have my reservations though, remember I live in the UK, This country is notorious for spying on is population. It is not that I dislike computers, without my computer I would not be able to be in contact with people like yourself etc. No, it is our governments propensity to meddle in every citizens affairs, and if every house in the UK had this system installed you can bet your bottom dollar that our government would make sure it's citizens adhere to it's policy on energy. We already have spy chips in our dustbins, and if you overstep the governments guidelines on how much you throw away by weight, you have to pay a great amount of money. The problem with this is that our government refuses to tell us what we are allowed! So maybe you can understand where I am coming from. Spencer.
