2001 Chevy Cav

02/07/2014 12:48 PM

My car radio wont turn off when I take out the key and open the drivers door. It stays on for 10 min after the car is off. and the interior lights don't come on when I open the drivers door.

Agree with SE, a most likely place to start.

This switch cuts the Accessory Delay Relay... if a 2001 Cavalier has such a thing. The ADR keeps the power windows, radio, seat adjustment controls, etc. active for ten minutes after you turn the vehicle off.

I really had no idea what piles these cars were until I came to this forum, but clearly the quality is subjective of these models, the volume of questions they generate is alarming.

That condition starts with the word "Chevy" in my opinion.

GM marketing exec: "Let's make a great car, we'll call it "Cadilac". Then let's make a slightly more affordable version with most of the same features but without the pseudo prestige, we'll call it "Buick". Then let's strip out the expensive features and call it "Pontiac". Finally, let's remove all Quality Control to reduce costs and make a buttload of money selling tons of crap to poor people, but make it look fun. We'll call it "Chevrolet"".

Sounds like you aren't looking in the right places for the controls.

.

The most convenient control for turning the radio on and off is not hidden somewhere in the door jamb. You can usually find it in the same vicinity as the interface you use to change volume, station, and input source. Turning the radio off will be simple once you locate the control, and it shouldn't even require you to leave the car.

.

You interior lights may have controls overhead or sometimes near the controls for headlights.
