Polarization Index of Power Transformer Measurement

Dear Sirs,

I have result of power transformer assessment during tested the Polarization Index (PI). The result of PI measured between HV to LV of that transformer @5kV-DC was 7.5. Do you have anything experience to be shared regarding this PI measurement result. I will look forward your kind advice. Highly appreciated to share this discussion.

What does it means 7.5 regarding of the PI measurement as I know the highest PI result to show an excellent insulation is 2-4. Thanks,

Your understanding is incorrect. Polarization index may be higher than 4, and when it is, it generally indicates excellent insulation condition. See the following explanation. It gives a good summary of the different elements contributing to the current that is measured during the PI test, and how they impact the result:

Thank you for your kind advise regarding this subject. Is that the reference as you mentioned as similar s alike IEEE, NETA standard? If so, How can I have it either softcopy or hardcopy book by purchasing of that book.
