ASTM Specification for Incoloy Flanges

02/15/2014 2:45 AM

Hello All,

Good Day..!

I need to order an Incoloy flange. I have a very old piping class given to me and that says it is ASTM A425 (which is in the form of rod and bars).
There is another grade, ASTM A564 (which is forging).
While comparing I found chemical composition and mechanical properties are same but A564 has not been annealed.

Having said that, my doubt is whether this heat treatment has any impact on selecting A564 in place of A425 having same Chemical composition and mechanical properties?

Vendors have quoted for mix of these, but I feel A564 is better suited for manufacture of flanges.

Thanks in advance

The first is best...no, the second...no, the first...the second....
Sorry, I just can't make up my mind. At least the B part is correct.

It has been my experience that ASTM A564 is in more common usage for Nickel alloy piping system. A564 forgings are available in a variety of pipe fitting types, not just flanges

The major oil and gas companies include 564 in their specifications.

The ASTM grade of the forging/fitting material must, of course, match that of the piping material and be in complete accord with all other requirements of the piping spec.

What is the deign temperature of your system, what is the design pressure and what type of bolting materials do you intend to use ?

Again, the specific alloy grade of your flanges must match the alloy grade of the piping.

You have not told us that yet...

The complete designation of your flanges is "ASTM B564 -UNS NO0440" or the like.

Is this your first time specifying alloy grades of piping ?

YES - Its my first encounter with Incoloy Material

Basic material for piping is Incoloy 825

Pipe is ASTM B423 UNS08825

Fittings ASTM B366 WPNICMC UNS 08825

Flange is ASTM B425 UNS08825

I prefer ASTM B564 instead of ASTM B425 for flanges (after studying the specs of both), and I want to substantiate that preference with all you experienced fellows out there :)
