Motor DE and NDE Bearings

03/02/2014 3:43 AM

Hi all,

I have a motor operate using journal bearing. during start up, there is jacking pump to create the hydrostatic film. my question,

1. What would be the setting pressure for jacking pump. same or different?

2. If different,

(i) what is the consideration i.e load, bearing type, etc?

(ii) normally, at which side the pressure is higher and why?

Thanks guys for your sharing information.

Based on the information provided:

2.

What does the operator's manual say?

What does the bearing manufacturer say?

Jacking pressure? Only the bearing manufacturer can provide that information.
Get the pressure to high shaft seals are going to fail.

I'm not going in to the aftermath of getting it wrong, I had to change a 2500HP motor as a result of a fitter tweeking the pressure setting.

1st Ans: For jacking pump setting pressure will be different.

2nd Ans: As consideration load bearing type is generally used in pairs to handle the induced load resulting from the internal axial.

And left side always has more pressure than right.
