Load Cell Compatability

03/06/2014 2:16 AM

hi all,

I have a defective weighing indicator replaced with a new Mettler-Toledo model IND780 hook up to 4 analog loadcell (Mettler-Toledo) model 0782 which has a capacity of 30tons ( 4 pcs) and a resistance of 1100 ohms excitation and 1000 ohms output resistance each. during calibration, we put a test weights of around 10 tons but the indicator displays "TOO LITTLE TEST LOAD - SPAN CAPTURE FAILURE". The IND780 specs for load cell is 350 ohms. Is the load cell with the high resistance (model 0782) not compatible with the indicator?

Thank you and regards

Apparently not.

With regards to load cells even while they are properly /electrically excited, most of the time their physical positioning / mounting locations affects the sensitivity aspects of the device.. You may have to reinspect or double check if they were mounted properly and each mounting beams are free to move or deflect perpendicularly downward against the weights when applied!

The beams where and how the load cells or strain gages are mounted also at times are used for weight capacity / sensitivity multiplier purposes

Otherwise, you may have to replace them again!

Good luck!

Four 1000 ohm loadcells in parallel will equal 250 ohms so the indicator should work. Likely something mechanical is wrong with the scale, or the summing box has failed.

Confirm the output resistance of each loadcell by measuring between sig+ and sig- (with and without load). You can also remove the summing box and just parallel the loadcell wires to confirm.

The model 0782 Load cell is 2 m V/V

http://www.baykon.com/files/DataSheet_0782-Load-Cell_en_130801.pdf

Default setting for the IND780 is 3m V/V

ftp://ftp.usa.mt.com/pub/indmkg/IND780_Qi/Documentation/IND780%20Q.i%20Manuals/IND780%20Q.i%20Technical%20Manual/64068643_R00_IND780_Q.iMPACT_TM_EN.pdf

Has this been corrected? Tech manual shows jumper to change to 2 m V/V

I agree that improper setting of the excitation / sensitivity parameters will directly affect the output accuracy readings.. This is one the basic requirements for any transducer.
