Steel Cord Conveyor Belt Replacement Using Winder/Reeler

03/14/2014 5:01 AM

Hello Everyone, We are planning on replacing our Belt conveyor during next shut in July. The Belt is Steel cord, 1.8m wide and 822m long and we are going to use a Stand on which, Belt Reeler will be placed.

I recently had a survey done on the Foundations as the reeler we are going to use is 60T and I got the confirmation from the survey company that Foundations are good for 60T load. Now what other loads we need to consider apart from 60T verticial reeler load? I'm sure there will be Belt pull force or belt tension. Also the Foundation dimensions are 3.4m x 4m whereas Reeler dimensions are 4.5m x 4.5m so Reeler will be overhanging on the Stand, would it add any load or cause deflection?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hire a REAL ENGINEER. Not a reel engineer, but a REAL engineer.

How could you possibly rely on complete strangers for advice on an unseen, unknown, undefined conveyor system, when given a single piece of mostly useless information?

Hire a REAL ENGINEER. Not a reel engineer, but a REAL engineer.

How about the weight of the conveyor.

Your going to replace a conveyor and not consider it's weight.

(belt conveyor) Conveyor Belt two different things

Not to mention the weight of the materials/items being conveyed.

OP:

Hire a REAL ENGINEER. Not a reel engineer, but a REAL engineer.

Don't forget the extra burden you're taking on of machine down time and personal injury liability by not hiring a REAL engineer. This load alone should get you to accept the financial burden of hiring a REAL engineer and their "on site" evaluation.

You might want to back guy the reeler. You can calculate the extra weight of the belt with one more parameter, its thickness, using a density figure half way between steel and rubber. I hope the survey company did this. You DID tell them what you're proposing. You should expand the foundation to at least match the reeler dimensions and throw in some rebar.
