03/25/2014 10:29 AM

So i am replacing my brake master cylinder but in order to do so i had to take it out and what do you know connected to it is qhere the brake lines go and a computer but tyis part is a seperate part but they are attaches by one bolt that i can find so i took the bolt off and now i can not get the two parts seperated does anyone know where the issue is? Is the bolts i dont see? Or is it a seal that i need to seperate as im not sure first time doing a master cylinder its probably one of the only parts i havnt replaced on the brakes so i am in need of a little assistance anyone that could inform me would be greatly appreciated thanks for all the help. Also this part has 3 clip wires that i had to remove before pulling it out one with several pins on the bottom of it and then two smaller sensors near the brake lines on top the lines dont go durectly to the master cylinder.

Year, make, and model of the car would be a big plus if you would like help.

You might do a search for DIY brake cylinder replacement for your specific car on the web.

I am sure that we don't have to repeat that you need to be sure the brakes are correctly bled and working before test driving...

Take it down to your local Autozone....they will tell you what to do, and while you're there get a repair manual for your car....

Do you think you could slow down, take a breath, and add a bit more punctuation? Then your post would be easier to read and you might get better answers!

And didn't you say in earlier post that you were going to take it to a repair shop?

That's a master cylinder assy from

1992 BUICK REGAL 3.1L V6 : Brake/Wheel Hub : ABS Hydraulic Unit
RAYBESTOS Part # ABS540070 Professional Grade; Reman

It's The Delco-IV ABS : (every year seems to be different)

http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,catalog,27,partnum,ABS540070,d,RAYBESTOS_ABS540070.html

Has the ABS unit "attached to the side of a typical looking Master Cylinder"From: Rockauto.com

and this is the control unit for that assy

If it was oil you will probably also have to replace the caliper seals or just go ahead and replace them with re-manufactured units, as it will soon or later get to the calipers.

Michael,

In order for you to get help you must provide the make, year, and model of the car.

Be careful! The ABS components are expensive to replace and they are very sensitive so do not pry or hammer on the unit.

Re: Replacing a Brake Master Cylinder Difficulties

On most modern brakes it is preferieble to bleed the master cylinder by itself using the 2 short plastic line that come with the master cylinder before installation. That is why the are included. I usually then quickly pull one of the temporary line and instal the brake lines before much fluid is lost. Then I crack one line at a time and have an assistant push on the brake pedal until the air comes out at that fitting. Then the other one. This way there is very little air in the lines. If it has antilock brakes, this make the total bleeding of the system easy. Antilock brakes of some designs can be a problem to bleed if not done correctly. It is very important to get a manual for the car before working on it. It usually saves a lot of money. I usually get an after market manual of a good brand and also the factory service manual for every car I own.

This man has posted twice for the same problems. He was very unfriendly to CR4 members previously. One reported him to Admin. If he is unfriendly to anyone, click on the report button....

He is mechanically deficient as well.

Strongly disagree.

Unless the OP sent a discourteous PM to some one then he seems OK to me.

I sense no mechanical aptitude deficiency. I sense someone with skills requiring guidance is all.

One of the ways of solving problems like this is to list the vehicle on internet auction websites (names withheld). After a few days, someone shows up with some money, swaps it for the vehicle, and takes the problem away.

Re: Replacing a Brake Master Cylinder Difficulties

I just bought it last week and i like this vehicle also i know about "bench bleeding" the master cylinder and it is deffinatly getting done betore installation i may have forgot to say that. But i will do it and i know how to bleed the brakes well bleeding atleast and since it is connected directly to the abs modulator not the lines then it also has bleeders on the abs unit so you can bleed it directly from there and then thr lines. And as far as me being rude to a member here i wasbt rude and i dont have two posts for the same thing one is for figuring out the exact issue the second is fixing that issue its two different things and the guy who reported me was rude he said absolutly nothing to help me just made me not even want to use this website anymore because this is a forum not a social media sight thats why i used it if you dont have anything about the topic to say there is no reason you should say anything honestly and i reported him before he did me i absolutly love the people here that have helped me put because it saved me some money and i got the part all togeather inside its just about putting it in the car now but i live in upstate ny and its snowing and i dont have a garage so its freezing but it will be back in later today after my wife gets home from work. Also as i said before the brake master cylinder is directly bolted to the abs modulator or controller unjt which makes it a mjch easier bleeder because you bleed it bolt it directly on and then you can bleed the abs modulator before anything and you might not even have to bleed it at the actual brake lines because this should get all the air out. And for anyone who is concerned about safety i have done 100's of brake pads and rotors and drums before just never changed a master cylinder so trust me when i say this i know how to bleed the brakes and i have 4 children myself so before anyone of them go in my car i will make sure it is SAFE. Also as i had saud before my friend that is a mechanical engineer was going to come helpbut he couldnt because his wife had to have surgery she ia teeminally ill, so unfortanantly he could not come help but i do have a friend coming over that is a mechanic and has been for the last 32 years and he is coming saturday to fix my turn signal switch that needs to be replaced and im sure he will go over the whole car since im bringing it up to his shop to be inspected so thanks for all the help i will keep everyone updated on exactly how everything goes i will not use this siggt that oftrn after this once in a while i might check to see if i could also share my knowledge with other people as they have me. Everyone have a great day and thank those who helped and also those who stuck up for me when other people started things. And whoever made the "anonymous" post be a man post with ypur name and know what ypur even talking about before posting please i have explained this is a forum for knowledge this is not a facebook,or myspace,or twitter etc. You get the idea! Thank all the help people

The time to replace that keyboard has passed: it doesn't seem to have many functioning punctuation keys and many character keys duplicate letters or or are incorrect.

Some of the people here can be very obtuse and not helpful. I would suggest that you start with an internet search for websites with owners from the same model of car or as close as you can get. If you state the exact model and year here someone might be able to help you, but you will have better luck with a website dedicated to that vehicle. I am sorry that some individuals were rude to you but they do not reflect all of us.
