Change Of Name Plate In Revamping Area

04/08/2014 12:59 AM

In one of my revamping project, one exchanger is already existing as 25-E-101B and its going to relocate in new position where earlier exchanger 25-E-101D was existing. Now Existing 25-E-101D is going to be demolished and replaced with relocate exchanger (25-E-101B). All the dimension and design parameter are same for both of these exchanger except the design temperature. D.T for 25-E-101B is higher one than 25-E-101D.

Now my question is either the 25-E-101B require rerating or it can be just put in the location of "D" as the "B" has already designed for higher temperature. And if no rerating is required than how we can change the name plate as name plate is code stamped with 2002 Edition.

? Which name plate are you talking about?

It is what it is! If B goes in and D goes out the name plate will be the one for B.

This will make sure that everybody (including the certifyiing authority) knows what the rating of the exchanger is.

I am talking about the equipment name plate. As the ealier equipment was with "D" tag no. and relocated one is with "B" tag so we have to change the name plate due to change in tag no. But as I explain earlier their is complexity in changing the name plate. So please give me your sugestion for the same.

If your office moves across the street; do you change the name on the door ?

It is the same with the equipment . The B exchanger does not re-identify for moving.

If you change the design of the B so that it operates differently then you might require a re-identify.

A tag is only a tag, the equipment is what determines the tag, not the other way.

You have asked a question that hits into "Asset management" and configuration management and there are two distinct and separate actions that BOTH need to be done.

Firstly, the equipment "tag" that identifies the item in its process line does need to be updated. If "machine #1" in production line #1 is moved into position #2 (or any other position), then its identification tag needs to be updated to reflect that change.

However, whatever tagging is used to identify the asset needs to remain unchanged. This is necessary so that maintenance records, purchase details, financial records and such remain relevant tothe actual machine wherever it is.

Do not change the tag that identifies capacity, construction date, supplier details etc.

Do change the label that erpresents which circuit breaker, air line, water supply, coolant system....., it is connected to so that it can be safely operated in its new location.

Do NOT change the nameplate.

Do NOT change the nameplate.

The nameplate defines the equipment to which it is attached.

Do NOT change the nameplate.

Do NOT change the nameplate.
