Optically clear adhesive/film combination

06/13/2007 12:43 PM

Currently I am in need of a good optically clear and stable adhesive/film combination to go over the front of an LED display. As of right now the adhesive we are considering is 3M 8141. Does anyone know if this will stay optically clear for atleast 2 years? Also, any other substitute adhesives would be appreciated, as the 3M seems to be a bit pricey.

Check with LCD panel suppliers for aviation. We have bought glass from Toshiba and others that apply optical filters to the LCD glass. If you contact Toshiba or other LCD manufactures they should be able to point you to the firms they use to apply those filters. I know Phillips does this type of work.

The films that they use in aviation must pass very stringent requirements for clarity and color, so the adhesives and techniques used would probably meet your requirements.

I don't know your application, but you might consider a specialty house to do what you need. Phillips and other manufactures are experts in these matters.

Optically matched adhesives are available from several suppliers, ie http://www.dymax.com/products/optical/index.php We have used these in products which have been in service for 7 or 8 years without problems.
