Closing of Manually Operated & Motorized Drive Generators Breakers

04/19/2014 4:38 AM

In a power plant switchboard there are total 04-generator breakers.

Two of them are Manually operated/closing type & another two are electrical drive/closing ( without closing coil/release).

Switchboard scheme drawing /design show that these all 04-breakers can be close through the syncheck device.

Our understanding is that,on syncheck we should have the breakers with motorized charging & closing coil/release.

In the above case. will it be possible to close these breakers on syncheck condition??

Looking for your inputs.

Thanks.

On the manual breakers does the syncheck control the shunt trip? If it does then the breaker can't be closed out of sync. It will try but as soon as the mechanism starts to move the shunt trip stops it.

Tonys:

As these breakers are old fashion type ( 380v, 600A ,Air blast) & do not have the proper closing release & as well as shunt trip.

( Closing holds only through a 3-phase solenoid which is connected at LINE-Voltage. If the line voltage are healthy so, it will hold the Latch of breaker machanisum to allow for closing & in case of voltage drop at line this solenoid will release the latch & breaker will open).

Thanks.

Closing is not a problem.

If the ACBs are without Trip coil or Under Voltage Release, how would these trips in case of reverse power. Hence in case these are Generator Breakers you should not synchronize for safety of Prime movers.

If these are feeder breakers (with built in over load and short circuit release), connecting incomers from different power stations, you can use Syn Check relay to close the ACBs.

Powersolution:

A close contact of Generator Protection is used in series of the circuitry of the 3-phase solenoid coil. In case of Reverse power this contact will open & also open the loop of the circuit of holding solenoid.

Thanks.
