Metering vs Measurement ??

04/22/2014 4:55 AM

Hello, guys.

Anyone knows what difference is between metering and measurement in CT or VT.

In the MV switchgear chapter of contracts, it says;

Current transformers
Accuracy for metering : class 0.5 M 5
Accuracy for measurement : class 1.0 M 5

Any idea would be welcomed.

How accurate do you want your electricity bills?

As TonyS implied, the accuracy for metering is what applies when used with a billing meter, such as by your supplying utility. The class 0.5 specifies an absolute accuracy of ±0.5%. You want your measurements to be as accurate as possible when you are paying for it!

However, for measurements such as give by informational panel meters, you are not usually concerned with multiple decimal points of accuracy, but might like to have a broader range of values over which to read them. In this case a ±1.0% accuracy or even less might be acceptable (as in the second line of the specs).

When I was writing this question, I also assumed that "Metering" would be about "billing" and "Measurement" would be about "indication / monitoring".

I think you are right.

Thank you for your opinion.
