1. Harmonic Order 6%

04/25/2014 7:59 AM

Hello, I could not understand what this paper means with "harmonic voltage order 1st"??? and it is given also that it should not exceed the level of 6 % ... Have you an opinion?

With our consideration, we will choose harmonic order 1,3,5,7 because electronic equipment in Thailand have consisted of DC power supply, six‐pulse type. This equipment will generate the said harmonic order. However, we will revise some values of each harmonic order as below

:• Harmonic voltage order 1st not more than 6% (U1 = 6%)

Harmonic voltage order 1st not more than 6% (U1 = 6%) because most distributiontransformers of buildings or factories in Thailand are 22000 / 400V or 22000/415V.The voltage over 400V is hard to occur at main bus bar of Main Distribution Board........

Sounds like they are just saying the first order harmonic of power (the fundamental frequency)...which would be, what, 50 Hz in Thailand? So your power should not exceed 6% over-voltage.

If it's "hard" to exceed the 400V mains, then you should be good.

Can you post the "paper" of which you speak? Maybe a little more context would help.

I would be willing to bet they have screwed up what fundamental they mean. Often I have heard and read things that talk about the 1st fundamental when they actually meant the 2nd. Meaning they see the "1st" as the fundamental frequency x 2 instead of the fundamental frequency x 1 as it is in fact is.

If this is the case...the limit is 24 volts on the 2nd order harmonic. Which would make the most sense as... the concern is on generated harmonics at frequencies other then the 1st order.

Yeah, that first harmonic is way over voltage!
