Have motor designed and manufactured at a cost of $22.00 US. Install on bike for a mark up to $500.00 US. Retail replacement starter at $125.00 US. Remove during warranty period any kick start lever kick back that may cause harm to driver and result in a liability issue. Bottom line money!

Gravity can also be used to self start a bike.

It's a while since I rode a bike but didn't they develop a starter/alternator in one unit. You have to have the alternator so why not use the starter option as well.

Electric starting bikes are great. Once you've owned one you will never want one without.

My first bike was a kick start only....great bike, hated starting it. Impossible to start if you've come off and hurt your leg.

Next bikes were all electric starters, one I have now has both which is smart.

My son's bike is kick start only, 2 stroke motorcross, I love watching him work up a sweat trying to start it when the plug is whiskered or the gas is dead.

Small commuter scooters normally have both electric and kick start.

Shoot, I even had a lawnmower (not ride on) with an electric starter when I had a lawn to cut once upon a time. Same reason there, it's easier.

You've obviously never seen a 1200cc motor kick back and throw someone over the handlebars, and maybe even break his leg as well.

There's that too.

You normally hear them before you see them...

Oh, I forgot. Many of the old bikes had dynamo systems, no battery so no electric start.

There was no electricity available until the engine was running.
