EMTP Software Question

05/08/2014 6:19 AM

I am using EMTP to simulate a circuit I have. The circuit consists of many capacitors which I would like them all to have the same value.

Is there a way to put it automatically or do I need to open each of them manually and put the value I want? Maybe a kind of parametrising of the value of the capacitors? Is it possible?

Thank you in advance

I was going to make a snide comment, but I'll refrain. Instead, let me ask a rhetorical question. Why don't you make all the IC's the same? You would only have to place a single order, you can look through DigiKey and find the cheapest IC that will fit in the pre-drilled holes.

I am doing simulation. Where would I need the IC's and the holes??

I am sorry but I didn't understand your answer.

Ahem, most software has embedded documentation with it. In Windoze this is called "help". Read it.

You might find your answer also at the software company help forum or contacting the software company by e-mail. CR4 volunteers (members) do not support EMPT.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Unfortunately "help" was not really "helpful" for me and that is why I am asking. If my question is so stupid I don't really know..

I also didn't know that EMTP is not supported in the forum, so I am sorry for that.

Thanks anyway!! :)

I've probably got the wrong end of the stick here: so I apologise in advance if that's the case.

With most simulation packages, if you wanted to place lots of identical parts in a schematic: you would place one; edit the parameters; copy it lots of times, then join them up with the wire tool.

If you're wanting a huge number it may be easier to do something like the above, then, copy the whole group lots of times before wiring all the groups together.

Again apologies if I've missed the point.

Never used EMTP but it is common to be able to create a template part with custom parameters you can then use repeatedly rather than having to place and change the parameters of a generic part.

Have a look through the menus, it may be right in front of you.

Are you using a version of EMTP with a schematic entry ATPDRAW? I received my license through Dr. Scott Meyer of the BPA. There was also a CANAM EMTP Users Group. Seems like you could copy and paste. I used EMTP when I was simulating the power electronics circuits for my thesis 20 years ago. I haven't really used it since them.

Put these words into any search engine and you shall find, "canam emtp users group".
