KOH Crude Glycreol

05/13/2014 5:33 AM

Hi Guys, hope you could help us.

We are producing BioDiesel and of course getting KOH crude glycerol out as a by-product. Do you have any simple tips how to use it mostly as animal food or any other tips are welcome.

Thank you in advance.

If you type: "Uses for KOH crude glycerol" into google (without the quotes), it will show you a wealth of information. Note that the 8th down is where this has been discussed on CR4 before.

First thing is to strip the methanol; from there, depends on practicality. What is your production rate?

Thank you, we having about 20 to 30 liter per Biodiesel production we have at the moment only a 120 ltr plant, but would like to get a bigger plant in and then we have quite a lot more glycerol. So we wonder what we could use it all for. Currently I have about 300 ltrs

Google glycerin recyclers. If you're lucky enough to have one nearby, they may accept it. Most aren't interested unless it's truckloads, or bulk pallets at least.

As you are using KOH it can be emulsified into water and then sprayed onto gardens- both a fertilizer and it will help sandy soils retain water (for a little while, anyways). It also works well for dust control on gravel roads. Just don't pour it into the creek- that's the worst thing you can do!!

There have been studies done on using it as animal feed. I believe sulphate levels were the largest concern once the methanol was stripped, but most animals can tolerate higher levels than humans. Somewhere around 5% mixed with feed causing no problem comes to mind. You will want to make sure the pH is below 10 for this.
