enjoy

it's nice to know there are reasonable people sharing their knowledge.

LOL....

..."Activated carbon is used to treat poisonings and overdoses following oral ingestion. There however is not good evidence that it improves outcomes.[3] It is not effective for a number of poisonings including with: strong acids of alkali, iron, lithium, arsenic, methanol, ethanol or ethylene glycol.[3]

Incorrect application (e.g. into the lungs) results in pulmonary aspiration which can sometimes be fatal if immediate medical treatment is not initiated.[4] The use of activated carbon is contraindicated when the ingested substance is an acid, an alkali, or a petroleum product."...

"There however is not good evidence that it improves outcomes."

It's used, but it can't be determined if it works.

Medicinal Activated Carbon, placebo at best, snake oil more likely.

I always make it by putting bread in the toaster and turning the control to max.

I'm not sure if my turtle eats toast. I'll ask.

..sufficed to say, I haven't found a method for making active carbon that fall under the DIY category.

..the turtle says yes.. She love bread, but only lightly toasted.

I personally would not put any homemade charcoal or activated carbon powder in anything that doesn't have some sort of good particle filter down stream of it. Also I would never use anything considered to be a homeopathic "homemade" chemical.

Next door neighbor had an activated carbon filter on the city water feed to his house. The first step he took was to scream for me to help him! The downstream support/filter broke and distributed 20 gal of activated carbon fine powder through every pipe in his house. This caused every fixture including the boiler to clog up with the powder and not flow water. Big problem was finding a fixture that flowed any water for back flushing purposes. Found one and flushed it out. Next was to use it to back flush all other fixtures at a small flow rate but enough pressure to break up the clogs. Several hours later everything was back to normal without the filter in line.

This video is giving a very bad message that something not proven is ok to "prescribe" to yourself. Even in a hospital the use of activated carbon for oral consumption is a hit or miss procedure. The primary "actor" in this video certainly doesn't seem to be qualified to make the recommendations he is. That is also the same reason I don't do dental work or heart surgery.

Good Luck, Old Salt
