Back Corona

05/13/2014 6:51 AM

I have an ESP for pelletizing plant . The ESP is for down draft zone. During normal operation we have stable mA and kV with emission of < 15 mg/nm3. But when the plant trips, ( traveling grate stops), there is fluctuation observed in mA and KV. Back corona is detected by the controller. We also face dust puffing from stack. There are mA and primary current shooting up ( spikes) observed

We have pipe and spike type electrode and we have tumbling hammers type of rapping. There is no high dust deposition observed on collecting electrodes.

How to avoid back corona and what controller setting will help in reducing this mA drops.

There are a lot of variables involved here that you don't give the parameters of testing that has been done, so you leave very little to work with....You might try a proper cleaning to begin with....You never said that it is working properly during normal operation....The condition that causes back corona(sparking) is too much resistivity for the precipitator field....You might try a pulsed or intermittent voltage supply controller...Did it ever work properly? What has changed? temp, humidity, material, maintenance procedure?

Esp works normally with max mA of 1200 during normal operation.Rapping system is healthy. There is no abnormal dust deposit on ce plates.checked during last shutdown. The controller U mentioned does it work by blocking firing cycle like charge ratio mode?

Yes I believe it used micro processor controlled thyristor.....
