Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code

05/13/2014 9:32 PM

Does anyone know where we can find, online or library, a copy to look at of the 1914 or 1918 ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code? Thanks.

We want to use it to help understand the allowable pressure calculations of an Amoskeag steam fire engine boiler.

Do bear in mind that boiler codes change over time as newer materials, techniques and incident analysis invoke changes. Determination of the suitability of the equipment to raise steam at any time is the focus of the Engineer/Surveyor from the company extending burst indemnity insurance cover for the equipment with careful regard to the condition of the equipment at the time of examination and test.

  • Robert Stephenson's famous "Rocket" railway locomotive, the victor of the 1829 Rainhill Trials, currently rests in the Science Museum, London along with William Hedley's "Puffing Billy" of 1813 and several other ancient steam artefacts. Were machines to be constructed today as perfect new mechanical copies, they would fall outside current boiler regulations in the UK, and no-one would insure them!

Try the ASME society itself. They may have archive material.
