PLA containers

06/19/2007 8:48 PM

I am interested in finding a company that can manufacture PLA containers for me to be used for skin care products in small batches(10K) and also preferably to a "custom" shape. Ed

Never really heard of any real good PLA containers only PLA films. Even then do some testing for your specific use and environment.

Write directly for more specifics esco76@yahoo.com

Prehaps one of my past customers may be of assistance:

ESS PACKAGING MACHINERY INC
305 Roseto Avenue
Roseto, PA 18013

http://www.esspack.com/

Very good to work with and I believe exactly the specialty you're looking for. Do let me know if this works for you.

Thanks, I will contact them. PLA is a resin, polylactic acid, that is from corn and so degradable and is being formed into containers and packaging.

PLA is produced by Cargill-Dow, A JV of the two venerable companies. It's possible some other company is now producing a competitive material, too. I know that PLA has been used for yogurt cups in Europe. I believe Danone (what we know as Dannon, elsewhere in the world) still uses PLA for its yogurt.

PLA has value as a moldable polymer made from non-petroleum feedstock. The only weakness I know is that it melts at low temperature but is suitable for food packaging and has excellent recyclability.

I have a good contact who did early market development work for the firm if you are having trouble sourcing the material for your application.
