Disconnector & Switch Disconnector Help

05/21/2014 4:59 AM

Hi all,

I often heard Disconnector and Switch Disconnnector, especially with the Medium Voltage devices, and have a bit confused with it. Could you pleased explain for me more clearly? Difference between them? Thanks.

A Switch Disconnector is usually a manually operated device; the term Disconnector can be more general, and may refer to a relay or contactor, for example.

A Disconnector is a device to de-energize a circuit manually or automatically. But when it is particularly mentioned as a Switch Disconnector or Disconnector Switch, the circuit is de-energized manually to ensure the de-energization until the Switch is again made ON.
